“Man is an Architect, a Builder of himself”

What am I supposed to be: a doctor, lawyer, Indian chief? This question is interesting because I may be able to justify denying that I am supposed to be anything. Aristotle said, “All men by nature desire to know!” All men, then, are supposed to be knowers. How does he or we know that. Of the six billion people on Earth, how many are striving to know? My experience has led me toward a persistent, self-critical attempt to understand the world, the Universe and the Reality of which they are parts --- in other words, to philosophy --- and to act accordingly. It also suggests an ultimate goal of Umanity as sovereign individuality.
